Belchen 3rd Tunnel Tube
The Swiss Federal Roads Office, ASTRA’s Zofingen office is carrying out the construction of a third tunnel tube (new construction) prior to the overall rehabilitation of the tunnel which will happen at a later stage.

Technical Data
- 2-lane national road tunnel
- Project design for TBM and NATM excavation
- Excavation diameter of TBM: 13.98 m
- Intermediate slab, service duct below the road surface
- Excavation in gypsum keuper
- Double-shell lining with vault thickness of up to 1.10 m in the tunnel invert
and 75 cm in the crown, reinforced for approx. 45% of the tunnel length - Excavation and lining of 11 cross connections using the drill and blast method,
roadheaders and mechanical excavation as well as 2 underground control stations
