Sustainability Blueprint©

In pursuit of its vision to be a leader in improving quality of life around the globe, ILF has established the Sustainable Solutions Competence Center to promote and embed sustainability across all projects.

As part of its services and solutions, ILF has developed the Sustainability Blueprint© to support clients in customizing and optimizing the sustainable delivery of their projects.

The Sustainability Blueprint© is based on a structured methodology comprising clearly defined steps. Each step generates specific outcomes that inform and shape subsequent stages, ultimately delivering tailored, positive solutions for both clients and the planet.

The successful application of the Sustainability Blueprint© is underpinned by the high level of expertise and close collaboration among ILF’s scientists, engineers, economists, local companies, and relevant stakeholders.

Sustainability Blueprint step 1.

1. Materiality Review & Analysis

Output: Multi-faceted materiality analysis unique to the project, country, client and stakeholders. Result: Identified material (important) topics for the project, country, client and stakeholders.

2. Preliminary Opportunities

Output: Unique opportunities, with varying levels of ambition, developed for the material topics. Result: List of opportunities ranked according to those that will provide the most positive outcome for Steps 3 and 4.

3. Sustainable Engineering

Output: Selected opportunities converted into sustainable engineering solutions by our technical experts. Result: Sustainable engineering solutions – each of which must deliver quantifiable benefits.

Output: A sustainably positive project outcome that incorporates Steps 1, 2 and 3. Result: Transformative, sustainably positive solutions that go beyond the accepted norms of space and time.

Output: Project-specific SMART sustainability indicators for the most material topics and individually selected opportunities. Result: Sustainable project indicators that enable clients to track, quantify and report on their cumulative positive contributions.

Greenhouse Gas Calculation and Reduction

In response to the Paris Agreement and ILF’s ambition to achieve net zero, the company has developed a comprehensive and agile greenhouse gas (GHG) calculation and reduction methodology. This methodology supports clients in quantifying project-related GHG emissions across Scope 1, 2, and 3.

GHG-related products and activities, as defined by the GHG Protocol, are systematically analyzed across different project phases and scenarios. ILF’s experts assess design data, emission factors, sources, project locations, and mitigation potential to ensure a robust and transparent evaluation.

The results of these analyses are used to identify and implement solutions that deliver the most sustainably positive outcomes — for both clients and the planet.
