The progressive cost reduction of renewable energy technologies has created an unstoppable growth in the demand for Renewable Energy Sources (RESs) at a global level. The intermittent nature of RESs, however, causes network planning and network stability issues for energy system operators. To overcome these issues, new energy storage facilities are required.

Today, a variety of different technologies, such as mechanical, thermal, chemical, electrochemical, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), are being further developed and are already competing on the short-, medium- and long-term energy storage device markets.

While Pumped Hydro Storage (PHS) still constitutes a 95% share of the currently installed storage capacity, various other energy storage technologies, which cover different storage durations and frequencies of power supply, are experiencing rapid growth and consequently a drop in price. Drawing on over 20 years of proven references, ILF is a leading player in pumped hydro storage and emerging technologies, supported by extensive experience in gas and power generation applications.
