Water Treatment

Water Treatment

Worldwide, water consumption, quality requirements and regulatory pressure continue to rise, while water resources decline and pollution increases. Ensuring the safe supply and reuse of water is therefore becoming one of the key challenges of the future.

ILF develops holistic, economical and sustainable solutions for the treatment of raw and process water, as well as for the treatment of municipal and industrial used water – from initial assessments and variant studies to planning, construction, commissioning and optimization of facilities.

With decades of experience, state of the art technologies, and international project expertise, ILF supports its clients in providing water efficiently, minimizing risks, and establishing circular water systems.

Drinking Water Treatment

ILF develops efficient and sustainable solutions for the treatment of raw water – from analysis and variant studies to planning, construction and optimization of modern facilities.

Treating raw water of lower quality is becoming increasingly important to ensure a safe water supply for the population.

ILF provides customized treatment solutions tailored to raw water quality, intended use and operational requirements. The service portfolio includes both proven low tech approaches and high end systems – in particular membrane filtration, energy efficient processes and cost effective, scalable technologies for different regions and markets.

ILF’s services include:

  • Determination of water demand and analysis of water quality
  • Variant comparisons and economic analyses (incl. CAPEX/OPEX)
  • Process design, detailed planning and permit planning
  • Procurement, construction supervision, commissioning and operational optimization

The goal: Safe, consistently high quality water – efficient, durable and cost effective.

Used Water Treatment

With innovative mechanical, biological, physical and chemical processes, ILF ensures high performance used water treatment, resource conservation and maximum environmental compatibility.

Used water treatment is essential to protect the environment, ecosystems and valuable water resources. Modern concepts no longer see used water as a waste product, but as a resource – for water, energy, nutrients and carbon. See also ILF’s OneWater Concept.

ILF develops tailored solutions for municipal and industrial needs, combining natural systems with high tech process technologies. For more than 40 years, ILF has been planning complex wastewater infrastructure projects worldwide.

Technical focus areas:

  • Inlet works and pumping stations
  • Preliminary treatment (screenings, grit, oil)
  • Mechanical treatment (primary clarification, filtration)
  • Biological processes (activated sludge, SBR, MBR, MBBR, IFAS)
  • Advanced treatment (physical/chemical)
  • Disinfection (UV, chlorine)
  • Sludge treatment (dewatering, drying, thermal use, aerobic/anaerobic stabilization incl. energy recovery)
  • Reuse of treated used water

The goal: Sustainable, resource efficient systems with a high level of environmental protection and optimal operation.

Industrial Water

ILF optimizes industrial water cycles, increases process reliability and develops economical solutions for the reduction, reuse and recycling of industrial (waste)water.

Water plays a central role in industrial production processes – both in the product and in operations. Consistent water quality is critical for process stability, product quality and compliance with legal requirements.

With rising costs and dwindling water resources, “Reduce – Reuse – Recycle” is becoming increasingly important. See also ILF’s OneWater concept.

ILF supports industrial partners in closing water cycles, reducing operating costs and achieving sustainability goals.

Industrial water expertise:

  • Raw water treatment (precipitation, flocculation, filtration, desalination, disinfection)
  • Process water treatment (softening, demineralization, oil/grease separation)
  • Solutions for water reuse and closed loops
  • Optimization of in plant water use
  • Energy and resource efficiency, recovery of valuable substances

The goal: Robust, economical and resource conserving industrial water strategies with high plant reliability.
